Ayurvedic Cleanse: Balancing Practices for All Dosha Types

Cleansing is a vital part of an Ayurvedic lifestyle, but the best approach depends on your unique constitution, current state of health, and life situation. That’s why Ayurvedic cleanses should be performed with the guidance of an experienced Certified Ayurveda Practitioner.

"It is the targeted specificity of Ayurveda, that results in an effective, gentle cleanse that yields positive outcomes." -- Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

With that in mind, certain habits and Ayurveda tools can cleanse the body, mind, and spirit every day:

1. Sleep is the foundation of good mental and physical health.

2. Retrain your nervous system and mind to abide in a state of calm and focus

3. Fundamental to cleansing is healthy digestion, absorption, and elimination.

We each consist of an ever-changing balance of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha energy. Often cleanses are too general, and don’t account for our dynamic constitutions, location or season. Saumya Ayurveda can help you integrate cleansing habits specific to your dosha and can design a custom Ayurveda cleanse tailored to your constitution, goals, and location.

Why Do We Need Ayurvedic Cleanse?

There are many stressors we face daily including unprocessed emotions, processed foods, work stress, work-life balance challenges, environmental toxins and on the list goes.

It can feel like we live inside a pressure cooker, yet the body knows what to do to function optimally. Our body works day and night to keep itself working, and sometimes, we need to help it along in eliminating metabolic waste, ama, stress, and undigested emotions. We deal with a lot—mentally and physically—and to address or avoid build up and overload that compromise our health, we need to cleanse.

Cleansing is how we support the body’s innate intelligence, give it a break, and rest our minds and nervous systems. It's a gentle way of resetting, rejuvenating, optimizing, and balancing the doshas.

Benefits of Ayurvedic Cleansing:

  • Removes ama (“toxins”)

  • Reduces excess Vata, Pitta, and Kapha

  • Creates calm mind and soothed nervous system

  • Enhances physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing

  • Increased energy (prana)

  • Restores general enthusiasm for life

  • Supports a healthy sleep cycle

  • Optimizes digestion (balanced appetite, improved digestion, and absorption)

  • Supports healthy elimination

  • Nourishes and rejuvenates the whole person

  • Optimizes overall health and wellbeing

Any time is the right time to Revitalize Your Being with Ayurvedic Cleansing Techniques. Key times are seasonal transitions, life transitions, before and after the holidays, and any time we feel not quite our optimal selves. If you hear yourself saying, "it's just aging or it's just stress"--those are clues it's time to take care.

An ounce of prevention? What a difference it makes!

Over time, ama - or toxins - can accumulate in our bodies and minds. This makes seasonal cleanses a vital part of an Ayurveda lifestyle.

Our 7-day detox programs are customized to your goals, current dosha state and life circumstances, and seasonal challenges where you live.

Our bodies and minds build up ama - toxins and energetic gunk - as we move throughout the world. Every day, we’re assaulted with more than we can digest: food, stimulation, stress, environmental pollutants... the list goes on and on. Regular cleansing helps us reset, repair, rest, and rejuvenate. When the tsunami of stimulation ceases, our bodies and minds know what to do. In the gentle slowness of cleansing time – we heal.

-Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

“I was looking for a home cleansing program and Saumya Ayurveda delivered. I work full time, have a family, sports, commute, --and this cleanse was manageable! I had such a positive cleanse experience; I plan to do it again and I have it on my planner already.

After a brief consultation, Veena emailed me my customized home Ayurveda cleanse, tailored to what was going on for me, and keeping in mind my busy schedule.

I did a 7 Day Home Ayurveda Cleanse. I lost 7 pounds even though I was eating up to 2,000 calories a day. The body brushing and self-oil massage smoothed out cellulite and I lost 3 inches over my entire body.

The swelling in my hands is significantly down. My strong cravings are eliminated. The crazy good part is that I didn’t try to eliminate sugar, it happened naturally as part of the cleanse. There have been so many benefits to this cleanse—even my back, that was causing a great deal of pain, feels very good. What a relief!

Three steps for cleansing the body, mind, and spirit.

There is a saying, "The mind is more in the body, than the body is in the mind." The Saumya 3 step meditation process shifts us from fight-flight-freeze mode to rest-restore-relax mode. Give it a try for forty days and observe the changes. The more grounded and relaxed we are, the smoother life flows.

"The breath is the connection between the mind and body, so by training the breath, we become calm, focused, and grounded, we slow down the aging process by decreasing stress. These practices are so simple and easy to have as part of our daily life. We actually feel and look younger."

- Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

1. Learn Diaphragmatic Breathing and Change Your Life. When we re-learn to breath diaphragmatically, we move from the flight-fight-freeze mode, to rest, restore, relaxation mode from where we want and need to live.

2. Daily Guided Practices: 11 minutes in the morning and in the evening, as anchors of your daily Ayurveda routine.

"Choose a couple of practices from the routines that provide you with the greatest support. Perform them while applying our two-minute meditation technique and your mundane tasks, just transformed into a mellifluous meditation. This is meditation applied to daily life." - Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

"Veena was able to help me regain my energy in just a few months and I’m feeling like my “young” self again! I love the food plan she designed for me, and all the supporting practices (am/pm routines, breathing techniques, herbs, and spice mixes) are so enjoyable to incorporate into my day. I highly recommend Saumya Ayurveda if you want to feel better and have more vitality.”
