Setting aside time for skincare can also be a great way to pamper yourself. Even if you keep your routine short and simple, the time you spend caring for your skin will be time you spend focusing on self-care. A routine can help you improve your skin and manage your stress more effectively.

"What is happening on the outside, is a reflection of what is happening inside. Dry skin and chronic constipation often go hand in hand, for example. Our concern is with the whole person from the inside out, and body and mind." - Veena

How Do I Know If I Have a Dosha Imbalance?

Peruse these comprehensive and convenient lists of signs and symptoms of dosha imbalances.

Peruse these comprehensive and convenient lists of signs and symptoms of dosha imbalances. As we are comprised of all Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, there can be an imbalance in any of the doshas, or a combination of dosha imbalances. Read all three lists and see if anything looks familiar.

1. Nourish Your Skin From Inside Out

While topical treatments can benefit your skin, you'll see better results if you focus on your entire body. You should work to cleanse your body of toxins and eat a diet that will give your skin the nutrients it needs. Foods high in antioxidants, like berries and nuts, are an especially good option. Try to eat sattvic food -- food that is freshly prepared -- as much as possible.

In addition to eating nourishing foods, you should try to drink warm water with your meals. Warm water can improve digestion, making it easier for your body to absorb the nutrients you're taking in. Try to avoid any distractions during meal time. Be mindful and focus on the food you're eating.

2. Identify Your Ayurveda Skin Type

Not everyone has the same skin concerns. Before you can create a routine that works for you, you'll need to determine your skin type. Do you have normal, dry, oily, or combination skin? If you don't know the answer to that question, you can determine your skin type with a simple guide.

You'll also want to look at additional issues that need to be addressed. Do you struggle with redness and inflammation? Are you trying to clear up acne? Does your dry and dehydrated skin need moisture? The right skincare routine can address all those concerns and leave your skin with a radiant glow.

3. Start Building an Ayurveda Skincare Routine

You don't need a lot of expensive products in order to create a skincare routine. In fact, when you're beginning a new routine, keep it simple. Cleanse your skin, nourish it, and protect it from the sun. Later on, you can add additional steps to your routine, such as toning and exfoliation.

It's important to look for natural, nourishing ingredients for your routine. Harsh products may give you results in the short-term, but they can cause damage to your skin that can be difficult to repair.

"Skin is our largest organ of digestion. Take a look at the labels on your skin products. If you are not willing to eat your skin care products, then don't use them on your skin." -Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

According to Ayurveda, massaging your face at night with kukumadi oil will make your face glow like gold. This ancient Ayurvedic recipe for radiant skin, evens skin tone and texture, repairs early signs of aging, minimize dark circles, and treat blemishes and scars.

4. Introduce One New Product at a Time

When you're creating your Ayurveda skincare routine, it's important to pay attention to how your skin reacts to the products that you're using. Some people are sensitive to specific ingredients. That's why you'll want to introduce new products to your routine one at a time. Monitor how your skin reacts to those products and adjust your routine as needed.

It's also smart to patch test new products before applying them to your entire face. Place a small amount of the product on your skin. Check to see if there are any reactions. If you experience a breakout, redness, or irritation, you'll want to find a better product for your routine.

5. Saumya Ayurveda's 3 Steps

Stress has an impact on us internally and externally. Keeping calm and maintaining balance of the doshas, is key to radiant, healthy skin.

There is a saying, "The mind is more in the body, than the body is in the mind." The Saumya 3 step meditation process shifts us from fight-flight-freeze mode, to rest-restore-relax mode. Give it a try for forty days and observe the changes. The more grounded and relaxed we are, the smoother life flows.

"The breath is the connection between the mind and body, so by training the breath, we become calm, focused, and grounded, we slow down the aging process by decreasing stress. These practices are so simple and easy to have as part of our daily life. We actually feel and look younger."

- Veena, Saumya Ayurveda

1. Learn Diaphragmatic Breathing and Change Your Life. When we re-learn to breath diaphragmatically, we move from the flight-fight-freeze mode, to rest, restore, relaxation mode from where we want and need to live.

2. Daily Guided Practices: 11 minutes in the morning and in the evening, as anchors of your daily Ayurveda routine.

"Choose a couple of practices from the routines that provide you with the greatest support. Perform them while applying our two minute meditation technique and your mundane tasks, just transformed into a mellifluous meditation. This is meditation applied to daily life." - Veena, Saumya Ayurveda
