Here's the comprehensive Ayurvedic morning routine guide you've been looking for! In our busy lives, starting the day on the right note is sets the tone for how the day and night flow. An Ayurvedic morning routine is not just about waking up; it’s about awakening your senses, aligning with nature, and setting a positive tone for the day. By incorporating these ancient Ayurvedic principles into your mornings, you can significantly enhance your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
This blog post will guide you through an effective Ayurvedic morning routine that promotes optimal wellbeing.

1. Wake Up Early
Wake at a supportive time. Waking earlier, such as before or with the sun, provides more energy as one is supported by the natural movement and lightness of Vata time and energized by the light of the sun (Pitta). (Usually this is before 6:00am, depending on location and daylight savings.)
Upon waking, connect to your diaphragmatic breathing. andbriefly look at your hands, then gently move them over your face, chest, and down to your waist to cleanse the neuro-electrical energy field around the body.
However, if you have a significant sleep issue and deprivation, you and Veena will work together on your specific sleep hygiene Ayurveda style.
The time before sunrise is referred to as "Brahma Muhurta." During this time one experience's heightened tranquility. It is an auspicious time for spiritual practices such as prayer, yoga, and meditation. Brahma Muhurta is a 48-minute period (muhurta) that begins one hour and 36 minutes before sunrise, and ends 48 minutes before sunrise.
Waking up early allows you to connect with the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting a peaceful start to your day.
Consider these numbers: studies suggest that waking up just one hour earlier can increase productivity by up to 25%. By rising early, you gift yourself uninterrupted time for meditation or reflection, which can lead to enhanced focus, reduced stress, and even a good night's sleep.
2. Clean the Face, Mouth, and Eyes
Splash your face with cold water, rinse your mouth, and wash your eyes with cool water. Gently massage your eyelids, blink 7 times, and rotate your eyes. Dry your face with a clean towel.
3. Hydrate and Flush with Morning Water
After waking up, hydrate your body with a glass of warm water. Ayurveda recommends this practice to flush out toxins built up overnight, stimulates peristalsis, and flushes the kidneys. . Avoid starting the day with tea or coffee, as they can drain kidney energy, stress the adrenals, cause constipation, and become habit-forming. (AKA coffee induced bowel movement.)
For added benefits, enhance your warm water by adding a slice of lemon, which is rich in vitamin C, or a teaspoon of honey, known for its antibacterial properties. Together, this simple mix can boost your immune system and improve digestion, setting a healthy tone for your day.

4. Evacuate the Bowel
Sit on the toilet to have a bowel movement. Poor digestion or lack of sleep can hinder this but drinking morning water and sitting at a regular time daily helps regulate it. Even without the urge, sitting on the toilet for a few minutes trains the body (and mind) to eliminate after morning water. If peristalsis does not occur, move on to your next step. For constipation or a natural elimination position, consider using a Squatty Potty.
Practice Tongue Scraping
Gently scrape the tongue from the back forward, until you have scraped the whole surface for 7-14 strokes. Glide the scraper across the tongue, do not push down. This stimulates the internal organs, helps digestion, and removes dead bacteria. A stainless-steel cleaner can be used by all dosha types.
Tongue scraping is a crucial Ayurvedic practice that removes toxins and bacteria from your tongue.
This daily ritual not only promotes oral hygiene and less gunk flowing downstream into your digestive tract, but it also stimulates the digestive system. In fact, research shows that tongue scraping can reduce bad breath. Also, by enhancing your sense of taste, it prepares you for a nourishing breakfast.

Consider options like oatmeal, warm porridge, or a smoothie made with seasonal fruits and spices. Adding spices like cinnamon (which may enhance insulin sensitivity) or ginger (which can aid digestion) can elevate your breakfast experience.

Writing down your intentions can enhance commitment and accountability. Research indicates that people who write down their goals are vastly more likely to achieve them.
16. Connect with Nature
If possible, take a few moments outside to connect with nature. Whether it’s a short walk, sitting in your garden, or simply breathing in fresh air, this connection can significantly boost your mood and energy levels.
Nature has a calming effect on the mind and body, making it an essential part of your Ayurvedic morning routine. A study found that spending just 20 minutes outdoors each day can lower stress and enhance overall wellbeing and support healthy vitamin D.
