Low carb and GI supportive, this Andean seed masquerades as a grain. First grown about 5,000 years ago, quinoa is tried and tested!
Packed with plant protein and fiber and gluten free, it is a terrific choice for everyone, but especially vegetarians and vegans who are often on the "gather" for complete protein.
What is a complete protein? Why is important? A complete protein is a food that contains all nine of the essential amino acids. Amino acids are building blocks the body needs to be healthy. For vegetarians and vegans, complete proteins is made by combining rice and beans together preferably in the same meal, but certainly within the same day. Non-vegetarians have easy access to complete proteins through animal based foods.
Quinoa is a complete protein and in addition to providing all the essential amino acids, it is an excellent source of fiber, minerals, and Omega 3 fatty acids. One of Mother Nature's genius creations.
Quinoa Benefits According to Ayurveda:
Choosing quinoa can assist in reducing carbohydrate cravings and supporting weight management. In many cases, cravings for carbohydrates and sugar are actually a desire for protein. Opt for quinoa when craving carbs as it offers the fulfillment of carbohydrates while also addressing your underlying protein needs.
Quinoa is a superfood that provides a wide range of health benefits, particularly suitable for vegetarians due to its high protein compared to most other grains. This makes it a great substitute for white rice or refined carbohydrates in the vegetarian diet. It's also supportive of healthy blood sugar levels.
Quinoa is perfect for individuals with sensitive digestion or in the process of recuperating from an illness, fatigue, exhaustion, or depletion. It boasts high fiber content, provides comfort to the digestive system, and has a mildly cooling effect, which helps alleviate inflammatory issues. Moreover, being gluten-free sets it apart from wheat and other grains, making it easier to digest.
Quinoa is a great source of iron and helps improve blood deficiency by restoring strength. It has a higher calcium content than milk, is abundant in magnesium and phosphorus, and is beneficial for kidney health.
Meals become medicine when the energetic qualities of the food restore your dosha balance. When food is not balancing for your doshic picture, it becomes toxic, creates ama, and has a negative influence on digestive fire (agni) resulting in imbalance in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Ingredients:
2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or other milk of your choice)
½ cup well rinsed quinoa

1-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon Red Alaea Hawaiian salt (high in minerals) or other healthy salt
1 tablespoon maple syrup or coconut sugar (optional)
Dosha Balancing Toppings: Refine the list to suit your doshic picture and further balance your doshas

Let's explore five creative and delightful ways to incorporate Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge into your daily routine, allowing you to embrace a wholesome lifestyle that supports your well-being:
2. Traditional Twists To Balance Each Dosha
Enhance your Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge by sprinkling in a mix of ground nuts and seeds. For dried fruits and seeds, cook them with the quinoa, instead of sprinkling them on as a topping. Well cooked fruits have a different quality when mixed with other foods than uncooked fruits. This supports proper digestion, assimilation, and elimination. Almonds, chia seeds, and raisins not only add a delightful crunch but also increase the nutritional value of your porridge.
Dried Fruit By Dosha:
Vata: Dates, raisins, currants, apples, and ripe banana
Pitta: Sweet apples (not sour), dates, and figs
Kapha: Apples, apricots, cranberries, and raisins.
Sweeteners By Dosha: Of course one of the best way to sweeten your meal is with cooked dried fruits.
White Sugar: Everyone should avoid it.
Vata: Jaggery Pitta: Maple sugar in moderation Kapha: Local raw honey and in small amounts only.
Note: Never cook honey as it becomes "poison" according to the Traditional Ayurveda texts and creates ama.
Seeds and Nuts By Dosha:
Vata: If digestion is strong, then small amounts of coconut, sunflower seeds and almonds. Almonds are best soaked in water overnight, peeled and then cooked into the porridge.
Pitta: A good amount of nuts and seeds are needed typically, as Pitta’s strong digestive fire can burn through plain porridge in an hour. The fat, protein, and additional nutrients of nuts helps Pitta from getting hungry too quickly. Soaked and peeled almonds, coconut, pepitas, and sunflower seeds are best for Pitta.
Kapha: Pepitas (also good for the prostate), chia, flax, and sunflower seeds are ideal for Kapha.
Dosha Spice Guide:
Vata Balancing Spices:
Pinch of cinnamon powder
Pinch of cumin powder
Pinch of nutmeg
Pinch of cardamom powder
Sprinkle of Red Alaea Hawaiian salt (high in minerals)
Maple sugar or syrup
Pitta Balancing Spices:
Small pinch of cinnamon powder
Pinch of cardamom powder
Coconut milk
Maple syrup or coconut sugar
Kapha Balancing Spices:
Fresh ginger root
Pinch of haldi or turmeric powder
Dried coconut
Dried currants, apples, apricots, cranberries, and raisins.
· Pepitas, chia, flax, and sunflower seeds
Ghee: Ghee is clarified butter and is tridoshic so it can be used by everyone. Vata can use more, Pitta moderate amount, and Kapha a small amount. Ghee supports a healthy digestive fire or agni, without aggravating Pitta.
Now, with the dosha knowledge above, you can further tailor these recipes to suit your doshic picture.
3. Protein-Packed Pancakes
Get creative in the kitchen by using Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge as a base for delicious and nutritious pancakes. Simply mix the porridge with mashed cooked in bananas, eggs, and a hint of vanilla extract. Cook until golden brown and serve with a dollop of fresh yogurt and a drizzle of maple syrup or other sweetener for a breakfast treat that's satisfying.
4. Overnight Oats Revamped
Revamp the classic overnight oats recipe by substituting regular oats with Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge. Combine the porridge with milk or fresh yogurt, your choice of sweetener based on your dosha, and a dash of spices based on your dosha. Let it sit overnight in the fridge, and wake up to a creamy and flavorful breakfast that will keep you full and focused throughout the day. Eat your food warm.
5. Nutritious Energy Balls
Prepare nutritious and on-the-go energy balls using Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge as the main ingredient. Mix the porridge with nut or seed butters, dates, and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. Roll the mixture into bite-sized balls and refrigerate until firm. These energy balls are perfect for a quick snack or a post-workout refuel that will power you through any task. (Let them come to room temperature before eating 'em up.)
By incorporating Ayurveda Quinoa Protein Porridge into your daily Ayurveda routine in these creative ways, you are not only treating your taste buds but also nourishing your body with a wholesome and dosha balanced meal that turns your meals into medicine. Embrace the richness of Ayurvedic ingredients and elevate your breakfast experience to new heights!

"I found Saumya Ayurveda when I was looking for a holistic approach to my health and lifestyle.
The Ayurveda Consultation with individual attention and focus has been wonderful. I have transitioned from pharmaceuticals to herbal and dietary approaches to manage my high cholesterol and calcium deficiencies.
Digestive issues that have plagued me my entire life have disappeared. I am a dedicated user of the oils to ease arthritis pain.
I was so pleased with my results that I recommended Saumya Ayurveda to my daughters and my mother. My mother enjoys the tea, and the oil is working so well for the arthritis in her hands and shoulders that she has been able to stop using harsh pain medications. Ayurveda is helping me to take care of myself and I can enjoy each day.”

“As a physician, I have always believed ‘Prevention is better than cure.’ In an era of spiraling health care costs, Ayurveda is the logical and natural solution.
I started working with Veena at a time when I was at the end of my tether, juggling my professional and personal aspirations. She responded to my desperate call and went out of her way to find ways to work things into my busy schedule.
I was encouraged to pursue a steady approach to create lasting changes. Now when I see my patients, I see so many sufferings from similar symptoms related to diet and stress. I have routed several of my patients to Saumya Ayurveda. Veena is a blessing to have such a rich resource.
I am eternally grateful to Veena for anchoring me to my present state of health and peacefulness and for helping me to embark on a path towards the balance we all are striving for. Thank you so much.”
